Why does Dictate not work in Outlook?

Outlook's Dictate fails for four usual reasons: no Microsoft 365 license on the signed-in account, connected experiences disabled by an admin policy, the microphone blocked at the OS level, or no internet, since Dictate processes speech in the cloud.

Check them in order. Confirm your account has 365. In File, Options, Trust Center, look for connected experiences. In Windows Settings, Privacy, Microphone, allow Outlook. Then test your mic in another app.

Copilot in Outlook is a separate feature: it drafts from typed prompts, and its voice input depends on your plan, so it is not a fix for a dead Dictate button. If IT policy is the blocker, no toggle on your side will win.

A keyboard-level voice email tool works regardless of Outlook's settings.

WriteVoice turns your speech into clean, formatted text in any app. Speak up to 4x faster than typing.
