Why can't I enable voice typing?

Voice typing usually fails for one of three reasons: the microphone permission is off, the voice input toggle is disabled in your keyboard settings, or the app you are typing in blocks voice input.

On Android, open Settings, then System, then Keyboard, and check that voice input is enabled for Gboard or Samsung Keyboard. On iPhone, go to Settings, General, Keyboard, and switch on Enable Dictation.

If you still can't use voice typing on your phone after that, check the microphone permission for your keyboard app and confirm your language has a speech pack installed. A restart clears most leftover glitches.

If the built-in option keeps fighting you, a dedicated voice typing app works in every app and skips the settings maze.

WriteVoice turns your speech into clean, formatted text in any app. Speak up to 4x faster than typing.
