Is there a free meeting transcription app?

Free meeting transcription apps exist, all with caps. Otter's free plan gives around 300 minutes a month with per-meeting limits. Word for the web includes a monthly allowance of transcription upload minutes on Microsoft 365 plans. Google's Recorder transcribes free on Pixel phones, and Whisper is free if you run it yourself.

To transcribe a recorded meeting for free, those caps cover a few meetings a month comfortably.

The trap is weekly volume: four hour-long meetings blow through every free tier, which is the business model working as intended. Decide by counting your monthly meeting hours, not by comparing feature lists. Under five hours, free works. Above it, caps become the tax.

Past the caps, recording meetings to text without minute math is the upgrade.
