How to get the talk to text button back on Android?

To get the talk to text button back on Android, open Gboard settings: long-press the comma key or go to Settings, System, Keyboard, Gboard, then Voice typing, and switch it on. The mic reappears in the keyboard toolbar.

If your talk to text icon disappeared after an update, two more things knock it out: the keyboard's microphone permission got revoked, findable under Apps, Gboard, Permissions, or Gboard itself was replaced as the default keyboard by another app without voice input.

On Samsung phones, the same toggle lives under Samsung Keyboard settings, Voice input. A restart after re-enabling clears the last stubborn cases.

If the button keeps vanishing, a dedicated talk to text app gives you a mic that stays.

WriteVoice turns your speech into clean, formatted text in any app. Speak up to 4x faster than typing.
