Can I Dictate an email in Outlook?

You can dictate an email in Outlook using the built-in Dictate button. Open a new message, look on the Message ribbon for the microphone, click it, and start talking. Say punctuation aloud: comma, period, new line. It ships with Microsoft 365 on Windows, Mac, and Outlook on the web.

If the Dictate button is missing, you are usually on an older Outlook without a 365 subscription, or an admin disabled connected experiences. There is no separate install; it arrives with updates.

Dictate types exactly what you say, so expect an editing pass for filler words and paragraph breaks. It is dictation, not drafting.

To speak a message and send it without the editing pass, use voice to email.

WriteVoice turns your speech into clean, formatted text in any app. Speak up to 4x faster than typing.
